Update catch!

Back to blogging...After a long wait. But, not self-inflicted. Temporarily was this service shut down and now following its restoration, I am following suit. Rubiks cube, anybody wrapping their heads around this? Do not be blinded by the colour squares that pop up everywhere precisely where you want it not to be. Whoever says cubing is easy should be thrust a Rubik instead of a number.

In other matters, Johnson is in a desperate mood to break any person who dares to stand in his way to hitting the stumps, failing which he will do it verbally. If actions fail to speak louder, then words will, by default. AAP is desperately trying to grab attention to its antics, the only thing they have forgotten is that their antics have already been taken note of. They should be made to read the newspapers first, as eminent writers cringe about the loss of reading habits. And movie stars too, for, for any youth and below, the only bamboo product they pick up after bed-rise is the supplement providing the life-and-death news of who Rajni is slated to act with in his next foray.

Elsewhere, the NBA All-stars game is being played with none of the Indians understanding the nuances and intricacies of this beautiful game where players look like giants from another planet and the fight for a ball to be put in a hoop. Barcelona decimate Rayo Vallecano to make us think why not give the league title to them, yet again. Facebook buys Whatsapp for a measly 19-billion dollar deal which got us thinking as to why Zuckerberg could not just renew his Whatsapp subscription with a costly 1-dollar per year. Our Finance Minister, Paneerselvam releases the financial budget for Tamilnadu which we students dutifully read during lecture hours, primarily because even these seem brilliant compared to the lecture drone.

Ending this with another tip of cubing: Do not ever make the mistake of gifting it to a person, not on his birthhour not on his deathhour and not any hour in the middle. If you already did, then redeem yourself before its too late. And by the way solving the cube is just formula-memorization and dedicated application. RUR'URUU is the first step:P.

Stop Ea'zh'th-qu'ack'ing!

I will bring to the fore two disturbing trends that plagued me whenever I stumble on it. These two are entirely unrelated. The first one being the pronunciation of the word "Earthquake" and the next being the sound that 'r' suffers in the tongues of Indians mimicking the Brits and the Americans. Yes, I agree there are other words pronounced wrongly but this particular word had the power to draw me in to a mode of introspection, albeit for weird reason. I have encountered gentlemen and women pronouncing the word as Earth-qu'ack'. They are not of a particular category. These gentlemen span the range of all the seven stages of life, yet most of them don't seem to be concerned that they spell the word in an embarrassing way. Maybe their teachers had pronounced it so, maybe they ignored the thorn in lieu of the bigger scheme, whatever might be the reason, I consider it  a blemish on their record, more so if they happen to be English lecturers. The correct pr...

Sonnet 18

Sonnets do not seem so dull suddenly .  Most of us hate hot and sultry summer days, don't we? Well then. We should be intrigued to witness a minority group that is interested in them. To such a group belongs Shakespeare. Yes. The very same person who penned pearls of wisdom on the landscape of love, the agony of pain and the anti-ephemeral nature of reproduction. Femininity is mostly associated with beauty. William ventures to an extent where he undermines the magnificence of the Sun illuminating Earth, and elevates the beauty of his love. However delve further into the sonnet and you will find a parallel story emerging. A story of the Sun's glory! Weaving both extremes into a single sonnet, he implores the reader to make a choice. Persons who are and have been in love would relate the sonnet to a woman's beauty while the rest would relate it to the Sun. Note the lines 'Rough winds...short a date'. Winds of high velocity may obscure the brightness ...

Afflictions of Romeo.

Now old desire doth in his death-bed lie. And young affection gapes to be his heir; That fair for which love groan'd for and would die, With tender Juliet match'd, is now not fair. You might be wondering why I suddenly came up with this stanza. This quartet is from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare has a queer style of hiding meanings in plain sight. In the above quartet, the interested yet somewhat casual reader would have noticed the meaning which he wished everyone to notice. Not many would notice that this stanza carries more than one meaning. I will try my best to elucidate both here. Let us assume that I had one of my 'Aha' moments (thanks to Kalid Azad), which spurred me to write this piece. Old desire might refer to the enmity or 'ancient' grudge that may be on the verge of dissolving, due to Romeo's intoxication with a girl from the opposing camp. Romeo wishes to follow up on this and ensure that such a situation never a...
